Read The Bleepin’ Manual
Like, Totally Pro Mode™
The debug section in Scary Legalese is your lil' first aid kit when OnSong throws a bleepin' fit. Here's the stuff that tells OnSong to get its act together when it boots up. Buckle up, peeps — let's look at these options & maybe save your bacon.
Backup Media Files
By default, OnSong yeets all your media files — audio backing tracks, background images, video, the whole shebang — straight into your backup. Yeah. This makes your backups the size of a small planet & basically impossible to manage. Turn this off if you don't wanna spend the next 47 years transferring gigabytes around like some kinda cloud peasant.
When you restore a library that doesn't have media files in it, OnSong's like "I remember these files existed, buddy," but it needs to actually find 'em again. Pro tip: if you import files with the same filename, OnSong will magically reestablish the connection. You're welcome.
Clear Temporary Files
Turn this on & OnSong will YEET temporary files into the void when you minimize the app. Useful if your device is basically a full dumpster & you're runnin' outta storage. Not recommended otherwise because it's gonna make OnSong slower than molasses in January & honestly iOS clears this stuff on its own when it feels like it anyway. So like... why?
Forget Last Song
THIS. This is the big one. Pay attention. If you import a song that's got weird incompatible stuff in it or it's literally the size of a small elephant, OnSong might have a full meltdown & crash repeatedly. Because OnSong's got that creepy memory of the last song you looked at, it gets stuck in a crash loop like some kinda Groundhog Day nightmare. If this happens, go to Settings on your device & turn THIS on. Next time OnSong starts, it'll forget that cursed file ever existed & show you the demo song instead. Congrats — you're unstuck. Now go delete that monstrosity.
Purge Database
Flip this on & OnSong will nuclear-option your entire library & start from scratch like some kinda sad reset button. But don't panic — OnSong backs up your old library first so you can resurrect it later if you get buyer's remorse.
Reset Settings
This does the exact same thing as the Reset Tools doohickey in the Utility Menu Thingy. It nukes all your custom preferences & throws everything back to factory defaults. Your OnSong library stays safe though. Useful if some bizarre combo of settings is makin' OnSong act weird on startup.
Storage Location
Since OnSong was born, it's been hoarding your libraries inside the app itself. This has made a buncha users real sad when they deleted the app & poof — library gone. But now you can pick where your OnSong libraries live:
- Local keeps your OnSong library folders trapped inside the app. Keeps things tidy & OnSong-only, but also means if you delete the app, your library dies too. Yikes.
- Shared stashes your OnSong library folders in an app group thingy. Other OnSong apps can access it now, & way more importantly, deleting the app won't nuke your libraries. But heads up — you gotta manually delete libraries before you uninstall OnSong if you wanna truly vaporize the data.
Note: Most of this stuff is off by default & stays off because OnSong resets 'em once they've done their job. This is on purpose & we're not tellin' you why.
