Tick-Tock Torture Settings
The metronome in OnSong is, like, totally capable of lettin' you hear & see the beat. (Mind. Blown. 🤯) This screen shows all the freakin' metronome settings y'all could possibly need, plus the ability to tweak literally every other aspect.
Clicky-Clacky Beat Box
Here you can obsess over every single detail of the audio, haptic, & visual metronome. Seriously, we gave you SO many knobs to turn.
Ear Candy Settings
Configure that beep-boop sound to match your questionable taste in music, plus a bunch of other nerdy parameters in the audio section.
Buzz Buzz Feelings
When you're holdin' your iPhone like it's a tiny concert venue, you can set the haptic feedback for each metronome click. (iPhone only, because Android users apparently don't deserve nice things.)
Blinky-Blink Mode
Set up the way the metronome flashes on your screen when you're too fancy for audio metronomes.
How This Thing Behaves (Spoiler: Weird)
This section controls whether your metronome is chill or absolutely unhinged.
Count In
Wanna see the metronome flash a countdown on your screen before it starts? Cool. Default is Off, but you can pick count in between 1-8 measures if you're feelin' fancy.
Stop Metronome
Both audio & visual metronome can shut themselves off automatically after a certain number of measures, or when you bail to another song. Pick from the options below, you commitment-phobe:
- Never is the default (because we love chaos) which lets the metronome keep playin' forever, switchin' the tempo, time signature, & subdivisions when you jump to other songs.
- After 1-8 measures stops the metronome after a set number of measures have done their thing.
- When song changes kills the metronome the second you ditch to another song.
Use Temporary Tempo Changes
Wanna tweak the tempo with actions that'll mess with both the metronome & MIDI clock without permanently breakin' your song? Enable this & your changes stay temporary instead of gettin' baked into the underlying song.
BPM Settings (aka "The Speed Constraints Nobody Asked For")
These settings lock down the metronome & tempo settings in the app so you don't accidentally create a black hole.
Default BPM
Used when the app needs a tempo but you haven't set one like a responsible person. Default is 96 BPM.
Minimum BPM
The slowest acceptable tempo you can enter. Don't go below this or things get weird. Default is 40 BPM.
Maximum BPM
The fastest acceptable tempo before your metronome sounds like a angry robot. Default is 200 BPM.
Quantize BPM
Set the BPM at different levels of precision because you apparently need that. Default is whole beats (boring whole numbers like 120). Options include:
- Whole Beat to set the tempo to a whole number like 120. Boring but default.
- Half Beat lets you get weird with decimals like 120.5.
- Quarter Beat for the obsessive—120.25 or 120.75, baby.
Rhythm (The Actual Beaty Bits)
This section is where you decide what sounds actually come outta your speaker.
Primary Beat
The downbeat where all the drama happens. Play it stressed (default), non-stressed, or don't play it at all & confuse everyone.
Secondary Beat
Usually the third beat in a four-beat measure. Play stressed, non-stressed (default), or go full silent & be mysterious.
Other Beats
The sad second & fourth beats in a four-beat measure. Stressed, non-stressed (default), or mute 'em.
Play Compound Beats
Wanna hear 6/8, 9/8 & 12/8 time signatures played with three eighth notes per dotted quarter note? This does that. Turn it off & these become basic beats like your grandma's metronome.
Tempo Ramp
When a song section changes tempo, the metronome smoothly glides to the new speed over however many beats you pick here. Options: Instant, Over 1 beat, Over 2 beats (default), Over 4 beats, Over 8 beats, & Over 16 beats. A {ramp:} setting on the song or section overrides this anyway, so y'know, do whatever.
Swing
Tweak where that offset swing beat lands when you've selected a swing subdivision. Because regular rhythm is apparently too boring.
