Song editor settings let you tweak how the Song Editor Thingamajig looks & acts. You can totally mess with all this stuff:

Fonts (Because Comic Sans Was Too Mainstream)

These settings control how big & sassy your font looks in the editor.

Font Family

The song editor uses a fixed-width font so your chords & lyrics line up all nice & neat (you're welcome). You can switch to Courier, Courier New, or Menlo. It's Courier by default, because we're edgy.

Font Size

This is literally how big the song looks when you're editing it. Wanna squint less? Bump it up. Wanna cram more words on screen? Shrink it down. We let you go between 6 & 30 points. Default is 16, because we're not monsters.

Shows what you wanna see in the menubar. Groundbreaking, we know.

Show in Menubar

Skip the Attachments Menu & access the song editor straight from the menubar like some kinda power user. It'll chill inside the Song Editor menubar instead. Revolutionary.

Typing (How to Smash Buttons Correctly)

Configure how your keyboard mashes translate to the song editor.

Autocapitalize

iOS autocapitalizes stuff by default, but we turned it off in OnSong so you can actually control your chords & lyrics. Plot twist! You can change it to:

  • Never means you manually capitalize like it's 1987. Default.
  • Words auto-capitalizes every. Single. Word. Because why not sound like a ransom note?
  • Sentences auto-capitalizes the start of sentences. Civilized.

Autocorrect Spelling

iOS tries to fix your spelling, but that's a disaster when you're typing chords & lyrics at the same time. So we killed it by default. Turn it back on if you wanna live dangerously.

Enable "." Shortcut

iOS does this cute thing where double-tapping space adds a period. Cute = broken when you're spacing chords. We disabled it in OnSong by default, but here's the panic button if you need it back.

Enable Arrow Keys

The song editor has four lil' arrow buttons above the keyboard so you can move your cursor around without losing your mind. They're on by default, but flip this off if they're cramping your style.

Enable Input Assistant Bar

Newer iOS versions show a bar with cut, copy & paste buttons above the keyboard. We get it—screen space is precious & we already gave you the quick chord bar. Toggle this if you want that bar visible or not.

Position (Where Should I Be Right Now?)

Controls whether the song editor freaks out & scrolls to match where you were in the song viewer.

Scroll Into Position

Turn this on & the song editor will open to wherever you were viewing in the song viewer. Editing a 47-minute epic & already at the end? Editor opens at the end too. Default is off because we're nice like that.

Quick Chords (The Lazy Person's Toolbar)

How the quick chord bar behaves—you know, that thing that pops up above your keyboard when you're speedrunning chords.

Quick Chord Bar

As you type chords, they appear as clicky buttons right above the keyboard. Totes convenient. Turn it off if you're desperate for typing space. You can still use the Chord Builder to add chords anyway.

Sort Chord Buttons

The chords in the quick bar show up in the order you encounter them. Kinda messy. You can change that to:

  • Off keeps chords in the order they appear in your song. Organized chaos.
  • Alphabetically puts Am first & G# last, because somebody likes spreadsheets.
  • Popularity sorts by how much you use each chord. Root chord flexin' up front. We see you.

Additional Symbols

The quick chord bar can hold other stuff besides chords. Type characters separated by spaces. Type two in a row like [] or {} & the bar adds them & puts your cursor in the middle. Default is: [] # b /
