Beam It (Google Magic™)

Google Cast lets you send OnSong to a Chromecast, Google TV, or other Cast receiver on your Wi-Fi network so your lyrics appear on the big screen, complete with motion backgrounds & live video. It's basically a projector for people too lazy to, y'know, buy a projector. Here's the magic:

Permissions

Open the External Video screen & tap the Cast button in the toolbar. OnSong needs two permissions to find receivers on your network (because privacy? We barely know her):

• Location lets the app & the Google Cast device know which Wi-Fi network you're on. Srsly, it's just Wi-Fi. But Google says jump, we say how high.
• Local Network allows the system to discover Cast devices around you. Basically, "Hey, can we see your stuff?"

Until you allow them, the Google Cast screen shows Find Your TV (aka "we're stuck"). Tap Continue & allow both, & OnSong starts huntin' for devices. If you ditched one of these permissions like they ghosted you, tap Open Settings & flip 'em back on for OnSong.

The Google Cast button appears on iPhone, iPad, & devices with Google Play Services. It is not available on the Mac app. Sorry, Apple fans.

Pick a Device (If OnSong Can Find One)

The Google Cast screen lists every receiver OnSong finds on your network, each with its name & model. Tap one to connect. A spinner spins while it connects (riveting stuff), & then OnSong asks what the display should show.

• While OnSong is still huntin', you'll see Looking for TVs… with a spinner. If nothin' shows up, it's No TVs Found plus a gentle reminder to check that your device is powered on & on the same Wi-Fi. Tap Scan to try again, or Use a Web Browser to cast to a browser instead (budget option ftw).
• Only one receiver plays at a time. Tap a different device & boom—switched.

If your device won't show up, make sure it's on the same Wi-Fi as your OnSong device & that you allowed Location & Local Network permissions above. (Seriously, go back & check. We'll wait.)

Pick What Shows Up

After you connect, the Choose Display prompt asks what the receiver should show:

• Projector shows lyrics for the audience. They're gonna sing off-key either way, so at least they can see the words.
• Stage Monitor shows the chart view for performers. For people who need a cheat sheet at eye level.

Close the prompt without choosin', & the receiver defaults to Projector. Once you pick, the screen closes & the Cast button in the External Video toolbar lights up (ooh, fancy). Open the Google Cast screen again & the connected receiver gets a checkmark & the toolbar shows a red Stop button. Tap the connected receiver again to flip between Projector & Stage Monitor, or tap Stop under the choices to quit the session.

Stop (Finally)

Tap the red Stop button in the toolbar to end the session (including web browser casts) & close the screen. Or swipe the connected receiver left & tap Stop to end just that one & keep the list open. Your call, boss.

Cast to a Web Browser (The Broke Person's Projector)

Under Other, tap Web Browser to cast to a computer instead of an actual receiver. OnSong shares a web address which you can copy, AirDrop, or send, then open in a browser on a laptop that's hooked to a projector or TV. Your laptop becomes the display. Tap the middle of the browser screen to go full screen.

As noted at the bottom of the screen: Motion backgrounds & live video may show up with a slight delay, especially on slower or busier networks. Patience, grasshopper.
